At Performing Arts, dancers explore and hone their talents with instructors who foster the skills and confidence each student needs to reach his or her personal goals.
Aside from the bonus of encouraging an active lifestyle, dancing can increase focus and confidence and allow your child to express his or herself in new, previously unexplored ways. The challenge of learning a new move is both motivating and rewarding, and our instructors are always nearby to provide guidance and celebrate successes. Many of our students develop lasting friendships and relationships with mentors, hone skills, learn lessons, and find confidence that follows them through life.
These 45-minute classes introduce core concepts of dance to young children in a fun environment, providing necessary training for advanced styles in future classes.
These one hour, once-a-week classes provide continuing education and training for students to prepare for their elementary level classes. All of our combo students ages three through five perform in the recital at the end of the year.
Offered for ages six and up to every skill level. We believe that the study of classical ballet is the primary foundation in the training of aspiring dancers. The technical dance style of ballet teaches graceful, flowing and precise movements. Our students begin each class with basic barre exercises, which teach proper weight distribution for balance as well as proper placement for use in center floor work. Our young students learn classical ballet techniques, though they may be introduced to more contemporary styles as they mature.
Dancing on pointe requires tremendous strength. In order to be able to dance “en pointe,” a dancer must have had the time and the training to achieve the form, strength and alignment necessary to a successful transition from ballet to pointe work.
Students are typically physically prepared to begin pointe dance training around age 11 and in their third or fourth year of ballet training. Students can only take pointe classes upon teacher recommendation. Young dancers who desire to dance on pointe should begin training at least two hours per week. Students who take pointe must also take a ballet technique class in addition to their normal ballet classes.
Our first-year pointe students use the barre to develop strength and confidence before being introduced to center floor work. Intermediate and advanced pointe students perform in our show.
Ballet technique is a non-recital class that is mandatory for our pointe students. This class combines barre and floor work. Students develop and strengthen technique throughout the year without interruption for learning choreography.
Offered for ages six and up to every skill level. Tap dancing uses syncopated rhythms to create a pattern of sounds. Our tap students learn proper warm-up techniques, combinations, turns and several styles, including ballroom, hoofing/rhythmic and Broadway.
Offered to students ages six and up. Jazz is one of the most popular dance forms. It could be any dance style characterized by the use of improvisation and influenced by the rhythms and techniques of jazz music.
Offered for ages eight and up. A ballet background is recommended. Contemporary dance is an evolution from traditional ballet. It is less structured than ballet and concentrates on organic and free movements.
Offered for ages six and up to every skill level. Hip-hop is a type of street dance that is performed to fast-paced, popular music. This high-energy class is great for dancers of all levels and experience.
Offered for ages eight and up. Lyrical dance is created from the fusion of ballet with jazz and contemporary dance techniques. It features movements that express strong emotions inspired by the choreographer’s reaction to a chosen song.
Offered for students ages seven and up. This class incorporates vocal coaching, dance steps and acting techniques to prepare students for realistic auditions or careers in theater. It is recommended that all students take jazz to sharpen their skills.
Theater Dance is a Broadway style class danced in character heels, wherein students work on storytelling and acting through dance. There is no singing involved. This class is only available upon instructor recommendation.
These 45-minute classes introduce core concepts of dance to young children in a fun environment, providing necessary training for advanced styles in future classes.
Offered for ages 5 and up. ACRO is a dance style that combines classical dance technique with acrobatic elements. It’s characterized by its athleticism, unique choreography, and use of acrobatics within a dance context.
Offered to upper level tap students as a non-recital technique class. Tap Tech is a supplemental class for tap dancers that are looking to strengthen their skills and practice foundational tap technique.
Offered by recommendation only to our most advanced students seeking opportunities for competitive dance experience.
Private coaching is available with Miss Kerri Lynn Paufler. Miss Kerri helps students prepare for upcoming auditions, shows and musicals through vocal and dance coaching. Please contact the studio to discuss available times.
